Afro-Brazilian folkloric music and dance
February 10, 2021, 7 pm – Livestream
To kick-off Voces – spotlighting the arts and traditions of Brazil – Esperanza Arts Center presents a live-streamed celebration of Carnaval with a performance from Teatro Esperanza featuring Ologundê. A live online Q&A and conversation with Dendê Macêdo and the Ologundê ensemble will immediately follow the performance. Ologundê will lead an online workshop with area students as part of their virtual residency at Esperanza Arts Center and a full recording of the live-streamed performance and study guide will be available as VOD for free to area schools the entire season. Ologundê ensemble celebrates the rich Afro-Brazilian culture of Salvador, Bahia through a diverse repertoire of music, dance, and martial arts. Comprised of Brazilians living in the United States and Brazil, the ensemble includes former members of world-renowned music and dance troupes under the direction of master Afro-Brazilian percussionist Dendê Macêdo.
