#EsperanzaNews, Featured

The Esperanza Academy Charter High School Dance Ensemble performed at the Puerto Rican Flag Raising Ceremony held at City Hall on Sept. 18.

The ceremony was part of Philadelphia’s 2017 Welcoming Week, a series of events, activities, and performances that celebrate “how Philadelphia is an open, friendly, and welcoming environment for immigrants, refugees and people of all backgrounds,” according to the event website. “The activities and events provide U.S. and foreign-born residents an opportunity to explore other cultures — and to develop a deeper appreciation for one another.”

The Dance Ensemble was invited to perform at the flag raising ceremony by the office of Councilwoman Maria Quiñonez-Sánchez, which hosted the event. Reverend Luis Cortés, Jr., the Founder, President and CEO of Esperanza, also spoke at the event. Congratulations to the Dance Ensemble!
