Nelson J. Acevedo and Esperanza’s very own Josue Duarte were both granted awards this weekend being recognized as just 2 of the 50 Most Influential Latinos from across the Philadelphia region in 2016. 

The Most Influential Latinos Foundation is the organization behind the selection and annual recognition of the 50 Most Influential Latinos in the Delaware Valley. The Mission of the Foundation is to support and encourage Latino leadership and empowerment across the board.

IMPACTO Latin Newspaper is a weekly Spanish language publication, with a very large readership among the nearly 600,000 Latinos living in the region of South Eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Northern Delaware. This publication is the fastest growing Hispanic newspaper in the area.

Vice President

Community Consultant, PNC Community Development Banking

Nelson J. Acevedo is a vice president and community consultant for PNC Community Development Banking.  In this position, he is responsible for increasing business partnerships with nonprofit community organizations in the five-county Philadelphia region as well as sourcing lending and investing opportunities and financial education.

Acevedo rises to the challenge of meeting established Community Development Banking goals by persistently working with a strong network of PNC volunteers and dozens of community organizations for the delivery of hundreds of financial literacy classes each year. He is also responsible for the administration and distribution of Foundation grants and sponsorships.

Acevedo joined PNC as assistant vice president and community consultant in September 2007.  Prior to serving as assistant vice president and community consultant, Acevedo was a Senior Loan Officer at Citizens Mortgage Corporation and originated over $60 million in CRA eligible residential mortgage loans.

Acevedo also is involved with many professional organizations.  He currently serves as on the board of directors and or committees of the following organizations: Nueva Esperanza, Housing Equality Center of Pennsylvania, Willow Grove CDC., and Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery, PA., Rebuilding Philadelphia Together, and The Salvation Army of Levittown.

Nelson Acevedo is married to Emily Acevedo of 26 years and have a son, Alexander Acevedo.

Josue D. Duarte

 With two decades of experience in media, television and film, Josue Duarte is an accomplished and creative production and marketing executive. His vast and varied experience in different media formats as well as training in music provide a diverse and ample background. During his career has created and implemented image and branding campaigns including Esperanza’s #YoSoyLa Cara and Univision 65’s Siempre Contigo.  His outstanding video production work in promotions and documentary series has been recognized and nominated for 6 MidAtlantic Emmy awards and he received the Emmy for one of his productions in 2011.

Currently, he spearheads the media and marketing efforts for Esperanza. As Vice President of Media and Marketing, he is responsible for furthering the objectives and outreach of Esperanza and its programs through various communication channels. Previously, he worked with Solutions Associates providing video and marketing creative direction including marketing videos, commercials, production support and promotion to a variety of clients.

Prior to his position with Solutions, he was the Promotions/Production Manager for Univision 65 Philadelphia and was responsible for all aspects of station promotion and production needs. He served as creative director working with sales and clients to develop campaigns and commercials and acted as liaison with various community and industry groups to help promote important agendas and events to the Latino community. Before his move to Philadelphia and employment with Univision, he worked with MTV-Latin America in Miami Beach, FL, helping with special projects and events including the MTV Music Video Awards-Latin America Show 2003. Prior to this, he was with the Walt Disney Company-Latin America in Coral Gables, FL, where he produced on-air promotions and image campaigns for the launch of Disney Channel-Latin America.

His initial professional years were spent in Colombia, South America, where his experience included work with a variety of novelas (soap operas) for Channel Caracol as well as independent documentaries , and production of a Rock festival (Rock the Park) in Bogota. He was a member of successful Colombian Latin-rock band “La Derecha” who produced several albums and concerts at a national level. In addition to his Emmy, he has received several awards during his career including Univision Television Group’s Most Creative Sales Promotion in 2006.

He was raised and studied in Colombia, graduating from UNITEC in Bogota with a degree in cinema and photography. He has also studied various musical instruments during his lifetime and participated in the Colombian Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bogota, Colombia, during his youth. He is married, has two boys, and is fluent in both English and Spanish. He currently enjoys playing drums, guitar and soccer in his pastime.
