Esther Sampson, of Nigeria, Achieves Dream of Teaching Thanks to Pa CareerLink North at Esperanza

Esther Sampson migrated to Philadelphia, PA from Nigeria to make a better life for herself and for her children. New to the United States, Esther initially felt lost and overwhelmed as she tried navigating the process of finding a job. She comes to the country, however, with an impressive resume. Esther owned her own event management company in Nigeria and worked as an accomplished public speaker and professional communicator. In her free time, she also enjoyed giving back by mentoring young women. Now in the United States, thanks to the support of the PA CareerLink North at Esperanza, Esther achieved employment as a guest teacher and can pursue her dream working in special education.

Esther first heard about PA CareerLink North at Esperanza from a friend who was a former client. She decided in September 2018 to visit for help with her job search. The dedicated team at Esperanza treated her like a person and not simply just a number.

Esther would like more people in the community to know about PA CareerLink North at Esperanza and ensure community members in need know about its programs.

“It’s such a great place,” Esther said and praised PA CareerLink North at Esperanza for being a hands-on solution center, providing financial wellness help, job interview prep, and tax preparation aid. Esther especially appreciated PA CareerLink North at Esperanza ‘s workshop, “Transferable Skills,” that helped her significantly with her job search.

Esther is proud to have achieved financial independence in the United States. She rests easy knowing she can support her children with a meaningful career. Esther hopes most of all to pursue her dream of earning her teaching certification. She currently works as a guest teacher at First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in a special education program. Esther loves to work with students, saying, “the kids give me a lot of joy.”

Congratulations again to Esther for achieving such transformative success, and PA Careerlink North at Esperanza for helping to make it all happen!
