Flowers are more than Norma García’s profession—they represent the determination, resilience, and gratitude that have shaped her life.
As the founder of NG Event & Decor, Norma has built a thriving business specializing in floral design for weddings, quinceañeras, community celebrations, and corporate events. But long before she became an entrepreneur, she arrived at Esperanza Academy Charter School with a simple goal: to learn the language and create a better future for herself.
“When I arrived, I didn’t know any English, but I found a wonderful program here that gave me the opportunity to learn,” Norma recalled.
The experience gave her far more than language skills. It strengthened her confidence, expanded her vision for the future, and introduced her to a community that believed in her potential.
Years later, Norma returned to Esperanza in a very different role. Rather than walking through its doors as a student, she was selected to design the floral arrangements for Esperanza’s 40th Anniversary celebration, Primera Primavera—an opportunity she describes as deeply meaningful.
“It was like a child returning home,” she said.
For Norma, the event represented both a full-circle moment and a celebration of how far she had come. Inspired by the joy and vibrancy of Latino culture, she created a floral design featuring gorgeous roses, orchids, and tropical elements that reflected the spirit of the occasion.
“Among so many talented people, having my design selected is something I thank God for every day,” Norma reflected.
Since launching NG Event & Decor in 2019, Norma has earned a reputation for creativity, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for her craft. “When you have the opportunity to do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work,” she said. “You wake up every day happy.”
Looking back, Norma credits Esperanza with helping lay the foundation for the business she has built today. She hopes her story encourages others to invest in themselves, seek out opportunities, and never stop learning.
“Look for the right places, surround yourself with the right people, and prepare yourself,” said Norma. “There are so many opportunities here.”
