#EsperanzaNews, Esperanza in the News, Uncategorized

The first week of the new semester is coming to a close for Esperanza College. Freshman week brought the promise of a better, brighter future for new students, and the beginning of a new semester brings another opportunity to excel for returning students.

At Esperanza College, faculty and staff are dedicated to educating well-rounded students which includes the integration of faith, reason, and justice. At the base of this idea is the belief that your talent is God’s gift to you, and what you do with that talent is what you give back to God. Esperanza College hires staff who have demonstrated these ideals throughout their lives in order to provide not only role models for success but also the best education possible.

This is why we welcome back Dr. David Hurtado to the Esperanza team. Eleven years ago, he helped start Esperanza’s work in Florida before leaving to work on his doctoral degree. Now, he returns to serve as the new Dean for Administration & Program Development at Esperanza College.

For the last 11 years, Dr. Hurtado was at Regent University in Virginia where he served as Associate Dean for Administration of the School of Communication & the Arts and taught a variety of courses as an adjunct faculty. Some of the courses he has taught include: Influence through Entertainment, Strategic Transmedia Communication, Producing for Television and New Media, and Cross-cultural Communication.

Dean Hurtado helped start special study programs in England, Belgium, Hollywood, the Sundance Film Festival, and the Middle East. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and a Ph.D. in Communication. His academic area of expertise is in the use of entertainment and transmedia storytelling to bring about social and spiritual change. He has also researched innovative models to help bridge the education gap among minorities.

Prior to joining higher education, he worked as a journalist, served with the JESUS Film project in Latin America, and helped start a Spanish Cable TV network. His work has taken him all over North and Latin America as well as to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His passion is to develop and implement strategies that use education, entrepreneurship, and entertainment media to share God’s love and bring about solutions for the problems in society.

With the addition of Dean Hurtado, Esperanza College is sure to continue to grow and prosper in the wealth of the combined experiences of staff and students.
