Year in Review: Immigration Advocacy at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast

#EsperanzaNews, Esperanza in the News, Featured, Uncategorized

The National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast is Esperanza’s premier national event that brought together hundreds of Hispanic clergy and faith and community leaders to Washington D.C. for workshops, prayer, advocacy, and worship this June. During this time, we hosted distinguished guest speakers and musical artists, and our clergy leaders offered prayers on behalf of our nation, communities, and families. The conference culminated on the morning of the third day with the signature Prayer Breakfast, featuring speakers such as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Representative Mike Coffman, White House Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson, a video message from Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, and more.

One of the most important and certainly the most unique aspects of the conference is the opportunity for Hispanic faith leaders to visit their elected officials to talk about the issues that are important to their communities. Nearly 400 attendees swept Capitol Hill demonstrating the power of the Hispanic faith community to come together and speak out not only for their congregations but for Hispanic communities across the country. Esperanza’s own Executive Vice President Danny Cortes and Board Member Rev. Bonnie Camarda met with the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress Rep. Cathy McMorris to discuss immigration and education reform.
