Esperanza Chess Queens Host “Galentines Day” Open House on their way to Nationals 2019

Can you feel the GIRL POWER?! Esperanza celebrated a great Galentine’s Day extravaganza this past Thursday, March 21, and we’re SO GLAD you, our supporters were able to join us!

The Esperanza Academy Chess Queens invited friends of the team to an Open Practice to show off their skills. Our Chess Queens are on a mission to get to nationals this year and need your support to reach their $20,000 goal. Just $60 will help cover entry to competition for one girl. Send some love now to our Esperanza Chess Queens!

Women from across the Esperanza family joined us at Esperanza Academy to celebrate “Galentine’s Day.” Gabrielle Moshier, Chess team coach and Esperanza Academy English teacher, praised the Chess Queens at the event on their way to nationals. “I think it’s really cool, that we get to be known for playing chess,” Ms. Moshier said.

Ms. Moshier stressed the need for the Academy Chess team to bring their talents to nationals this year. “Most importantly, everyone gets to see them. And that’s huge. These are kids that get a bad rap and are amazing,” Ms. Moshier explained.

The girls impressed supporters with stellar moves and talked about the fun and excitement of competing in chess tournaments. The girls were generous enough also to teach us all some of the great chess moves they plan to bring to nationals! We were inspired by the Esperanza Chess Queens, and hope you were as well!

If you’d like to support the girls, you can make a contribution here. We’ve already raised more than $4,500, so we’ve got the momentum. Thanks for helping our girls shine and supporting the Chess Queens today!

Esperanza Women in Leadership Spotlight: Gladys Ramirez-Wrease, Associate Dean of Esperanza College

Dean Gladys Ramirez-Wrease’s primary focus at Esperanza College is her students. She has dedicated her life to serving young adults who wish to obtain an education. You’ll always find her brainstorming ideas that benefit her students that enroll at Esperanza College. Dean Gladys developed her “student first” approach to university administration over her many years in student support, university administration and education. In her role as the new Associate Dean for Academic & Student Success, she’s exactly what Hunting Park and Esperanza College has hoped to find: a guiding hand that cares first and foremost for the community and thinks selflessly about empowering Esperanza College students.

Ultimately, Dean Ramirez-Wrease sees her work as 100% student-driven. “Everything rises and falls with student success,” as the Dean states.  After all, Esperanza College exists to serve its students—so she makes every interaction student-first.

In her successful higher education career, Dean Ramirez-Wrease has been raised up by other strong women and mentors. Dean Ramirez-Wrease grew up with a family who adopted her and was grateful to depend on such strong and supportive adults in her life. She dedicates her inner strength to the unconditional love she received from her family, and the nurturing environment her adopted family afforded her while living in Argentina.

Dean Ramirez-Wrease enjoys working to develop programs at Esperanza College to build capacity for increased student achievement. She hopes students will utilize Esperanza College’s new Student Success Center, which recently opened this Spring, and includes technology workstations, classroom services, and tutoring support.

In her current role at Esperanza College, Dean Ramirez-Wrease is looking forward to mentoring new students and paying it forward, especially for young women at Esperanza College. “I can see myself in a lot of these students here,” the Dean says. Dean Ramirez-Wrease wants each student to realize their own potential.

We’d love for you to share in Dean Ramirez-Wrease’s student-first vision. Esperanza College has empowered students for nearly 20 years; we hope you’ll make the gift of an Esperanza College education today!
