To Our Local Neighbors, Friends Around the Country, and Supporters:
Esperanza announces the Hunting Park Community Revitalization planning initiative, now currently underway!
The planning initiative will focus on development of a particular geographic area in Philadelphia where Esperanza has its headquarters. The goal of the plan is to make a positive impact now, and build a better future for our community together.
The plan will help bring new opportunities to our neighborhood residents from childhood to adulthood, while also improving their current quality of life. We’ll also help make neighborhood businesses stronger, and build community networks.
The Plan Will Focus On:
- Education, Business Development and Jobs
- Affordable Housing, Transportation and Infrastructure
- Community-Building, Safety and Security
- Social Services and Public Services
- Green Space, Open Space and Recreation
- Your Ideas, Concerns and Priorities
The planning process has 4 stages over 12 months. It will cover the area in North Philadelphia known as Hunting Park, defined by E. Wyoming on the north, Luzerne Avenue on the south, N. Front Street on the east, and N. 9th Street on the west. This plan is possible through generous support from Wells Fargo Regional Foundation, Citizen’s Bank, Aetna and the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department.
Planning activities will be:
- Organizing neighborhood leadership. Leaders from the neighborhood will come together on an advisory committee to build a unified vision for our community. They will also try to bring in resources to put the revitalization plan into action.
- Holding community meetings and focus groups to collect information. Volunteers from the community and other invested groups will help us get this done. If you are local to Philadelphia, Esperanza needs your help with this! Please contact our Community Organizer (contact info below) to get involved or to recommend someone else for us to contact.
- Figuring out what the neighborhood needs, and coming up with strategies and recommendations. With the information we gather, the research we conduct, and the input we get from community leaders, we will work together to identify and address community needs.
- Presenting our findings at public meetings. Meeting will be held to present our plan, gather more community feedback, and make a plan for implementation.
Esperanza needs everyone’s help to build the best community revitalization plan possible. If you are a neighbor in our local Philadelphia area, your skills and resources will help us create the positive impact our community needs to build a better future. If you are one of our many supporters around the country, your prayer support is always needed! Please feel free to contact Esperanza’s Community Organizer (contact info below), and get involved in any way you can.
