Day Two Highlights from the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast and Conference

The second day of the NHPBC was packed full of activities starting with the Capitol Hill briefing keynoted by Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, who offered guidance to conference attendees about how best to lobby Congress on immigration reform.

"It was exciting to hear a Republican presidential candidate speak about approaching immigration in a constructive manner," said Rev. Luis Cortes, Jr., "talking not only about border security but other pieces as well in order to truly address immigration issues."

Following the briefing, hundreds of conference attendees fanned out to visit congressional offices to discuss key issues, such as comprehensive immigration reform, U.S. education policy and federal housing initiatives. That same afternoon, they also participated in a special briefing with White House officials designed to spark a dialogue between the Obama administration and Hispanic faith leaders.

The day ended with a night of celebration and praise during Esperanza's Partners and Awards Dinner. This special evening recognized some of the amazing leaders who have distinguished themselves in their service to Hispanic and faith communities.

Attendees were also blessed with dynamic and praise-filled performances by Julissa, Jessica, Lilly Goodman and Marco Barrientos.

Walmart received the Esperanza Partner Award for its corporate citizenship and its partnerships with faith communities; Dr. David Black, president of Eastern University, received the Esperanza Advocate Award for his work on behalf of the Hispanic faith community; Vahac Mardirosian received the Esperanza Spirit Award for his exemplary ministerial service, as did Dr. Alberto Mottesi for his impressive, worldwide ministry.

We will be posting photos and videos of all the NHPBC events on our Facebook page. Make sure to share your stories and post your own photos of the event as well!
