Job Title: Housing Counselor

Position Description: 

Esperanza is seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Housing Counselor for its National Housing Department.  The Housing Counselor reports to the Housing Project Director and is responsible for providing comprehensive housing counseling services.   Essential duties and skills include:

  • Provides one-on-one counseling for first time home buyer, mortgage delinquency/default, diversion hearings, tax or rental delinquency, predatory lending, post purchase and foreclosure mitigation;
  • Maintains a caseload, provides household needs assessments and pre and post – occupancy counseling, develops service/action plans for program applicants/participants and maintains documentation of all services offered to participants in files and data systems: Home Counselor on Line and Counselor Max;
  • Advocates on behalf of the program participants on foreclosure cases with lenders or attorneys; and participates in the Philadelphia Diversion program;
  • Interacts with various governmental agencies, legal institutions, home inspectors, lenders and others related to housing qualification related process;
  • Attends meetings, fairs and training as assigned.
  • OHCD, HUD or PHFA Housing Certification preferred; minimum of 1 yr. of housing counseling experience required 

·         Knowledge of Counselor Max or HCO computer system preferred

·         Bilingual in English/Spanish
