Freddy Santiago - Illinois

• Ordained as Senior Pastor of Iglesia Rebaño Compañerismo Cristiano (one of the most prominent Hispanic churches in the Chicago area) with his wife Lynette in 2003
• Recently chosen as one of the top most influential Hispanic men in Chicago “you must know” for his work in helping children, youth, and adults grow intentionally into stronger individuals through advocacy for prevention programs; direct training and mentorship in areas such as life skills education, parenting, leadership, and capacity building; and bringing forth the message that resources for our families must be prevalent at the present, not just the future.
• Previously worked as a prevention officer where he gained the understanding of how important it is to help youth make decisions that will not hinder their life as well as the role parents, teachers, community, and government play in adding to their value of life.
• Has gained much recognition in local and national media sources for his leadership in immigration reform and his renowned statement: “It’s time for a revolution.”
• In December 2008, Pastor Santiago opened the doors of his congregation to more than 3,000 families and individuals and created a series of nationwide events relating the stories of struggles of American families torn apart by our current immigration system.
• He has reached out to Latin American communities in Cuba, Panama, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Honduras, through leadership training and community service projects in disadvantaged areas
• Recently graduated from the Metropolitan Leadership Institute for being an exemplary leader in his community.
• His passion is to serve youth and families by ”speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
• Pastor Santiago resides in Chicago, IL with his wife and four children.

I believe that the immigration crisis in our nation requires the collaborative effort of every community organization, faith leaders and citizens alike. Although efforts are taking place on an individual basis, Esperanza for America provides us the opportunity to work collectively on a national issue that is going to require that we mobilize at a precise time with a strategic effort. Esperanza for America equips us with the direction and opportunity to stand as one, and when it’s time to sound the alarm, we will all be ready.
