Esperanza Academy Charter High School, founded in 2000, is dedicated to providing quality education that prepares critically thinking, socially capable, spiritually sensitive, and culturally aware young adults who can use English, Spanish, and technology as tools for success.

Some highlights about our school include:
  • EA is a comprehensive college preparatory four-year high school enrolling 750 students in grades 9 through 12
  • Esperanza Academy has a 100% minority student body that is 95% Hispanic and 5% African American
  • The poverty rate is well above 80% every year, based on percentages of students eligible for free and reduced lunch
  • Nineteen percent (19%) of all students speak English as a Second Language
  • Most incoming freshmen at EA come from schools currently in Corrective Action, and the majority enter EA with between 5th and 6th grade literacy levels
Despite the challenges faced by our students, we achieve high levels of success:
  • Esperanza Academy Charter has maintained a dropout rate of less than 1% for the past 5 years
  • The school’s attendance rate for the 2010-2011 school year was 90.56%
  • We have a 90.78% four-year on-time graduation rate, compared to 78% in the state of Pennsylvania and 58% in the school district of Philadelphia
  • We have over 90% college acceptance rate for graduating seniors
  • Approximately 60% of our graduates enroll in college, compared to 34% of students in Philadelphia’s public school district. We havethe only nonselective admission high school with a 9th to 12th grade configuration and a significant Hispanic subset, in Philadelphia, to have ever achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
