Education is the ladder needed to climb out of poverty. It is the key that opens doors that might otherwise be closed.
The year 2000 marked a very important moment in the history of Esperanza in Philadelphia. It was the year that Reverend Luis Cortés, Jr., president of Esperanza, saw a dream become a reality with the opening of the Esperanza Academy Charter High School and Esperanza College of Eastern University.
Reverend Cortés believes that education empowers, that it is key in the quest to strengthen the Hispanic community. The old adage says that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. But if you educate him on how to own the pond, you open up new opportunities.
Esperanza’s commitment to education reflects our mission to help Hispanic men and women expand their opportunities through education. At Esperanza, we firmly believe that to educate young Hispanic men and women is to strengthen our community, to enrich the lives of our families, and to create business and community leaders.
Esperanza has established two solid educational foundations in the Philadelphia area that offer comprehensive, innovative learning experiences that prepare their students for success at every level. Click on the links below to learn more.
