The Esperanza English Institute offers a strong curriculum in all aspect of the English language. The content of the course helps immigrants adapt to living in the United States while improving their skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and using correct grammar. The Institute’s five levels of instruction are offered at all times, in three sessions each year (spring, summer, and fall). Each session has 40 classes of three hours each (120 hours) and currently costs $210.00 per session plus $40.00 for books for a total of $250.00. Classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
Institute instructors have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and often higher and are experienced in the teaching of English as a second language. Students in the Institute are professionals from other countries who need English for their work or candidates for Esperanza College who need to complete Level 4 to be able to enter the college. All new students are tested to confirm their level of instruction. Testing is done before the session begins. For more information, call 215-324-0746, extension 417.
General Education Diploma (GED) Class
The General Education Diploma (GED) class is offered at Esperanza on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. This GED class is in English. Interested students should contact the center for Literacy (CFL) at 215-474-1235 to register for the CFL orientation. When the student goes to orientation she or he may request the Esperanza location.
