Tesoros de Esperanza

The Tesoros de Esperanza (Treasures of Hope) program is an abstinence initiative of Esperanza operating in Orange County, CA. The project seeks to educate teens to abstain from sexual activity until marriage while increasing their knowledge and raising their self-esteem. The program boosts motivation, accountability, and support among peers through a mentoring program that prepares adolescents to become mentors. In addition, Tesoros de Esperanza increases the positive relationship-building skills of these adolescents by preparing them to choose and sustain healthy marriages in the future.

The project offers weekly abstinence classes; monthly mentoring gatherings; abstinence presentations in local middle- and high-schools and community-based organizations; the Abstinence Rally—a celebration and promotion of the abstinence message to the larger community held once a year; and abstinence education seminars for parents.

Tesoros de Esperanza is a collaboration between Esperanza and two faith-based and community partners from the Orange County, CA area: Templo Calvario CDC and La Familia Hispana. The program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, ACF -Family and Youth Services Bureau’s Community Based Abstinence Education.
