Recent Grants Awarded

The grants awarded to Esperanza help us continue our mission to strengthen the Hispanic community by revitalizing our neighborhood, increasing the capacity of Hispanic faith- and community-based organizations, and providing an abstinence-training program for teens.

Hunting Park Corridor Management
In January 2008, Esperanza received a Targeted Neighborhood Support grant of up to $75,000 from the City of Philadelphia’s Neighborhood Transformation Initiative. The funding will strengthen the commercial portion of Esperanza’s work by supporting the formation of a small business association, acting as a crucial link to city funding streams for small business assistance, and overseeing the development of marketing and beautification plans to draw attention to the neighborhood.

Hispanic Capacity Project (HCP) Pennsylvania
In December 2007, the State of Pennsylvania awarded Esperanza $100,439 to bring its successful Hispanic Capacity Project to Allentown and Reading. Funding will allow Esperanza to provide capacity-building activities for 12 Hispanic community organizations in the target area. The grant complements a federal award for Esperanza to work in Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley and brings Esperanza’s expertise to demonstrate a successful model in the state.

The Department of Health and Human Services awarded $1.5 million, over three years, for the Hispanic Capacity Project, Pennsylvania, which will build the capacity of 30 organizations in Philadelphia, Bethlehem, Allentown, Lancaster, and Reading. Esperanza will develop organizational capacity by providing sub-awards, training, and technical assistance to selected organizations, resulting in more and better services to individuals and families in need.

Tesoros de Esperanza
The Department of Health and Human Services awarded Esperanza $3 million, over five years, for a Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program. Tesoros de Esperanza will serve approximately 15,000 youth ages 12 to 18 in Southern California. Templo Calvario and La Familia Hispana will increase awareness and peer support for abstinence and help youth to choose and sustain healthy marriages.
