Faith in Action

As faith and community leaders, we often experience firsthand what goes on in our neighborhoods. We see the faces of those who are in need, of those who suffer, and of those who want more for their families.

For that reason, Esperanza has established Faith in Action as a resource center for faith and community leaders on the subject of advocacy. It contains simple information regarding advocacy and specific information on issues for which Esperanza advocates and that you can join.

Advocacy is important to Hispanic faith leaders because as leaders of the church, we are called to act on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves. Jesus summed up God’s law in the book of Matthew:

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest   commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37-40).

We must not only remember to care for the poor but also the vulnerable, the sick, and the voiceless, as Jesus was an advocate to all in need.

Today, we can think of countless examples of people in need throughout our communities. Just as there are many in need, there are many ways to help others through charity, ministries of community social services or advocating for effective governmental programs and structural changes for the benefit of those in need.
