Make Your Voice Heard: Be a Part of the Feltonville Veteran’s Memorial Plaza Revitalization

Esperanza has been awarded a Neighborhood Placemaker Grant from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to improve the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza at Wyoming and Rising Sun Avenues. Come hear about the project and share your ideas to contribute to the final design for the space.

The purpose of the grant is to “offer a funding opportunity for impactful projects that answer the question: how can you make your neighborhood uniquely beautiful through horticulture?” After speaking with our neighbors and merchants on the Wyoming Avenue Commercial Corridor, Esperanza’s Housing & Economic Development division submitted a grant application in January 2015 to make improvements to the Feltonville War Memorial Plaza. In May 2015, PHS announced a $25,000 grant to Esperanza!

“The project will seek to increase the amount of green space on the plaza, renovate deteriorating infrastructure, create a safe and clean space that the community can use, and contribute to the overall revitalization of the Feltonville neighborhood and its Wyoming Avenue commercial corridor,” says Phil Dawson Senior Director of Esperanza’s Housing & Economic Development division.

Design work will continue through the fall and winter in preparation for a spring groundbreaking, and the first phase of improvements is expected to be complete by the end of June 2016.

Our veterans and our community deserve a space with both dignity and beauty that can be enjoyed by all who encounter it. Help us to honor our veterans and improve our neighborhood by lending your voice at the next meeting to determine the design and programming of the space.

Esperanza will be hosting a meeting Wednesday, July 29th at 6:30pm at the Wyoming Branch of the Free Library.
